Canadian Youth Mathematical Modeling Contest
Contest:
The Canadian Youth Mathematical Modeling Contest (CYMMC) is an annual international contest for high school students. Teams of four are invited to compete in solving open-ended problems, applying mathematical modeling to present possible outcomes, and writing a report.
WHY COMPETE?
The applications of mathematical modeling have become even more of a necessary tool in today’s complex, unpredictable world. Learning mathematics can often be tedious, with problem sets being abstract and specific. CYMMC offers students a chance to exercise applications beyond pen and paper, involving different branches of mathematics and interdisciplinary background knowledge. Students will also cooperate with teammates, practice their research skills in a time-restricted manner and work on writing skills. Schools and students will also gain recognition from CYMMC, with awards that can be put on student’s resumes.
